Color
Pantone colors will be converted to a CMYK profile. All full-color graphics must use a CMYK profile.
We do not accept RGB profiles. Images saved with RGB color profiles will result in an image being printed in black and white when put into our publishing system. All RGB profiles will be converted to CMYK for proper reproduction.
Black-and-white materials must be sent in black and white, not color.

Black and White Toning Aimpoints
Dot Gain
Dot Gain is an increase in diameter of the half tone dot which increases the apparent darkness of images on the printed page. As a result of the physical characteristics of newsprint, the dot gain is greater than that of glossy stock. At The Pharos Press we have a 30% dot gain.  The following guidelines are recommended when you are scanning or toning your own images. Total ink density should not exceed 240%.

  Shadow up to 88

Black & White Reproduction
When toning black & white images, it is important to select proper highlight, shadow and midtone placement. Doing this will result in an image that is clear and has even tonality and excellent detail. Depending upon the actual photograph, optimum toning could vary from the aimpoints above.
